Why does sarah palin want to kill so many wolves, in such horrible ways?

I just got an email from an animal protection forum I signed up for and it says that Sarah Palin and the Alaska Board has approved the widespread macre of thousands of wolves. Why do they want to kill them? Wolves live in Alaska just like bears, they're a part of the scenery. They're supposed to be there. The Board has approved aerial shooting, snaring, poisoning and ging pups in the dens... why? Are wolves that much of a problem out there in no mans land?
