Does music really help a baby's development?

From the studies I have found, there is no proof that it does anything for development. However, babies recognized songs played to their belly up to a year after they were born. I know a few women who played songs to their belly and then used the music to calm the baby when it was born and they seemed to recognize it and it calmed them down. I've been playing calming music that I like so when I play My music when the baby is born, hopefully it will calm him. You don't need to have it very loud, the sound is amplified. I've played frank sanatra and green day. Sanatra makes him sleep... So, get a feel to what your baby responds to.
