How was mahatma gandhi good for india?

Before him, Indians were second cl citizens in their own land. Hindu men were forced to work under the British and the British forced them to violate their beliefs by eating pork. The Indians were downtrodden. Mahatma Gandhi ran a peaceful revolution and drove the British out of our land. He united the different people of India (and trust me, we are all very different) and helped us regain our land w/o violence.
