How phosphate involved in cellular respiration?

I'm in Honors Biology and I am doing a paper on cellular respiration and the 3 stages it has to go through. But i have no idea what Phosphate means and how it applies to cellular respiration. I have tried searching online but that really didn't tell me, so this is one of my last options. So please help me out!!!!
